My natural go-to is pencil or pen. Lately, I am stepping out of my comfort zone and painting a lot more. I do love to paint but feel I am still finding my own style. I am really enjoying working on this piece full of colour.
I think Friedensreich Hundertwasser's work is so appealing to kids. His bold, colourful paintings with the added element of pattern reminds me of children's early paintings.
We began this meeting looking at and discussing Hundertwasser’s ‘five skins’ diagram and some of his artworks connected to it. I asked the kids to design a poster for the environment. They thought of a slogan and with Hundertwasser’s style of layers in mind created their posters.
It was great to see them coming up with their concepts and then incorporating the 'layered' pattern into the composition.
In September, I started doing art sessions with kids. We started off with just a few children but it has since grown! We have had a lot of fun learning about Van Gogh, Georgia O'Keeffe, Menashe Kadishman, Richard Diebenkorn and others.
I love putting the classes together and gathering materials from the everyday stuff to also encourage recycling and looking after our environment.
I look forward to sharing with you our creative meetings over here!
